HARVEST FOR BREAKFAST

The first meal of the day is without a doubt the most important. If breakfast is missing a final special touch, a quick walk to Harvest Community Foods is the solution. Choose from a selection of Namasthé Tea Co. teas. Each bag is respectfully forged from the BC Coastal Mountains. Once collected, the botanicals are shade-dried to preserve the aromatic oils, which give the teas their unique aroma and taste.

As the tea steeps, prepare a delicious applesauce bowl using Harvest’s heirloom apple and vanilla bean sauce. Warm the applesauce, mix in nuts and dried fruit or combine with oatmeal. Do all three even. If you are a newbie at food prep try the delicious apple sauce on its own.

To go with your tea and applesauce bowl, pick your favourite bread, brioche or croissant. Toast them until they are warm and slightly crispy. Now you have the perfect base for adding a Foxglove Farm jam. Located on Saltspring Island, Foxglove Farm is one of the original farmsteads on the island. They grow fruits, annual vegetables and even boast a diverse orchard. Harvest stocks a variety of Foxglove jams, including classics like strawberry and raspberry.

HEALTH-CONSCIOUS LUNCH

Often dismissed or forgotten, lunch is an underrated meal. The store has options for those who prefer to pack a healthy lunch and for those who need the option of a quick pick-up. Try the plantbased pâtés and spreads. Saltspring Harvest’s handmade végé-pâtés are created with locally sourced ingredients in a certified gluten-free kitchen, perfect for sandwiches and wraps. Add some crunch to your lunch with Harvest’s garlic dill pickles. Slice them up as a filling with tomatoes and lettuce or as a topping.

Enjoy freshly made noodle dishes right there in the eatery. Savour udon with shiso, tofu, shiitake, and green onion or rice noodles with charred chili and almond hazelnut sauce. Too busy to leave but craving noodles? Have them delivered to you with DoorDash.

SUSTAINABLE SEASONAL DINNER

Make dinner the star of your day with Harvest’s charred chili and garlic sauce can be used to add a kick to tofu and pan-fried veggies. Use it to make delicious sauces for pasta or rice. As fall approaches, try using spaghetti squash instead of traditional pasta to add some variety to the table.

Looking for the perfect side dish? Harvest’s pickled fennel escabeche will complement Mediterranean-style meals perfectly. The most common way to serve these pickled veggies is cold as a side but go ahead and get creative. Mix up salsa by blending the escabeche with tomatoes, make spicy hummus, or try an escabeche salad.

Green beans are a common dinner side, but Harvest has given them some extra flavour by making chili garlic pickled green beans. Serve them alongside a hearty main such as a stuffed squash or casserole. These green beans are fantastic for snacking on right out of the jar or adding to your spicy Caesar with a couple of olives.
